Franschooek

For the next two days we're in Franschhoek - the gorgeous wine area east of Cape Town.  We're staying in an adorable cottage with a lovely little vineyard.

They have a lot of options to avoid drinking and driving here so one day we took a wine tram and the next hired a driver ($40 for the day).

The wineries focus on getting you to spend the whole day - taste wine, have lunch, let the kids play on the jungle gym. They're not about the quick sale - In fact, they don't pressure you to buy bottles at all. Each winery is unique with amazing scenery.

We have done a couple of fantastic wine and food pairings that we were really blown away by.

One thing got a bit interesting - one of the estate owners - Rupert - that has a lot of land and many wineries - was shut down today. The indigenous people of the area are protesting the winemaker's ownership of the land and therefore we couldn't go to any of those wineries. I love a little political unrest - keeps us on our toes!

Overall Franschhoek is an incredibly beautiful and relaxing town - We are, of course, trying to figure out how to move here.- And legitimately buy land....

  1. How were the wines? Anything we should be looking to buy?

  2. looks like beautiful country, you got some great shots! Love the mountains with the vineyards shots. I really enjoy wine tasting with food pairings, much more of an memorable experience, not to mention preventing one from getting hammered.
