Plett to Addo

The cool kids call Plettenberg Bay simply Plett. It's a very popular destination for South Africans to vacation. They prefer to visit in the summer though so it was fairly quiet.
We enjoyed a lovely walk on the beach to start our day.

Then we headed out toward Addo - Only three hours away so we were able to stop and visit Monkeyland! (a monkey sanctuary) and a bird sanctuary.
The monkeys were crazy! So many and you could get quite close! This is a squirrel monkey - They're very small and bright yellow.

Not all the monkeys at the sanctuary were from South Africa but this one is (and they're the only kind that can swim).

These are the Capuchin - they're the smartest. They live the longest and they have the youngest adults carry the babies on their backs instead of the mothers doing it -  like babysitters. (These guys are moving fast sorry it's a little blurry).

Monkeyland also had lemurs.

Then I felt like I had to brush off my safari sighting skills at the bird sanctuary - But some were pretty easy to see...

This last one is a golden pheasant from Asia.

I realized unlike previous travel journals I have not  kept you updated on Mike's espresso experiences - Today we stopped for lunch in Storms Mouth Village (the true end of the Garden Route) and Mike's espresso was just a mini coffee. He was not amused.

On to Addo - Which is a Nature Preserve much smaller than Kruger and known for having lots of elephants. We stayed at a very luxurious (but incredibly affordable!) inn - Mike had told them we were celebrating our anniversary so they left us many little treats like a fruit basket, some sparkling wine and some rose petal art.

  3. We visited a monkey zoo in Apeldoorn, and a monkey came up and sat on a fence next to Luusje (who was five at the time) and undid her hairdo! He slid a fancy hair tie (she had just gotten for her birthday) right of the end of her ponytail and ran off! It is our favorite vacation story... Did the monkeys try to take anything from you?
