Safari Days - Part 5

I actually meant to make this part of the last post but I hit save too early so here's an extra.
Our last day out was great - we started by seeing our lucky hyenas - should've known it would be a good day.

And then some giraffes and elephants - always a pleasure...

And then suddenly Val told Neil very urgently to stop...
Lion!

There were three females and one was scoping out the situation for getting across the road.
When we looked closer...

Cubs! Six of them (on the left).
We watched as the three ladies got the little ones safely across.

Female lions raise cubs as a unit so all three were responsible for these little ones. They stay separate from the males until the cubs are about three months old. Then they take them and introduce them into the pride. These six' introduction was still to come.

We also saw three more females later that day.

Not surprisingly - The only ones at a watering hole.

These sightings were a great end to this part of our trip!

  1. Wow! Just read through all five days of your safari (finally catching up on your blog). Great pictures. I love Lions!! (mike) Chris is disappointed you didn't see a panda. Looks like you are having an awesome time.

  2. Totally cool pictures with narrative. The animals must be used to people as there were many to see on your adventure. Glad to notice you were also in the safety of your car.
